Benefits of STEM Designation for International Students

For international students considering two-year MBA programs in the United States, it might be helpful to know that the Johnson School’s STEM designation has benefits beyond high-quality, career-focused academics.

Students with the F-1 visa who are enrolled in a STEM-designated program become eligible for a STEM OPT (optional practical training) extension, allowing them to work in the US in an approved STEM field for up to 36 months. This two-year extension:

  • Increases hireability
  • Extends professional training opportunities
  • Provides work authorization for summer internships
  • Offers additional chances in the annual lottery for limited US H-1B skilled work visas
